The boss spoke ahead of the match at the San Siro
Ernesto Valverde gave his thoughts on Tuesday’s Champions League match against Inter at his pre-match press conference on Monday.
The Barcelona boss talked about the likelihood of Lionel Messi playing, the threat presented by the Serie A side and Arturo Vidal and Philippe Coutinho.
Here are the best bits.
Valverde on Messi
Leo is at the point where he might be available, but we have to wait for the training session. We have to see if he’s safe to play.
In terms of his play and his movements, he’s fine. We have to wait. ... It’s always better if he’s there. Of course it’s necessary to get Messi back as soon as possible.
There are three or four possibilities. One is that he plays from the start, or he comes on, or he goes off. What we won’t do is take any risks.
Valverde on Inter
We expect opposition similar to what we found at the Camp Nou. Maybe they’ll be a little more aggressive with their pressing at home. Inter are a very intense team and want to dominate the game.
We saw the 5-0 against Genoa, as well as everything they’ve done in recent weeks, and we’re ready for anything.
Valverde on Coutinho
We are interested in Coutinho coming into play because for us he is a guarantee. And you also have to see the context of the matches. We all struggle to be better and of course he can improve.
Valverde on Arturo Vidal
He is a player who has great enthusiasm and whenever he plays, he drives us on. We’ll see if tomorrow he plays or not but of course we see that he is a player who can change the dynamics.
