La Liga Launch Ad Blitz Asking Fans to Call for Barcelona-Girona Game in the United States

The league wants to bring the game to Miami

La Liga has launched an ad blitz hoping to get fans to demand the Barcelona-Girona match be played in Miami, which would represent a historic first, even as various other organizations are blocking the plan. La Liga President Javier Tebas has said he wants to have a league match outside of Spain for the very first time, in a match that would take place on January 26 in Florida.

The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), the Spanish players’ union (AFE), and FIFA President Gianni Infantino are all against the idea. RFEF resident Luis Rubiales pronounced the matter dead, but it seems Tebas and his supporters are not backing down.

They are attempting to make a plea directly to the fans by getting them to sign a petition and using the hashtag #BringUStheGame, and they have put ads in both the newspaper edition and the website of the Miami Herald to rally support.

The petition site reads:

The greatest soccer league in the world is looking to make history. LaLiga is planning on bringing a regular season match to America for the first time ever — but we need your help to make this event happen.

Imagine watching Luis Suárez, Philippe Coutinho, Cristhian Stuani, Portu, and others competing right here at home. A real league match, with points on the line, between defending LaLiga champions FC Barcelona and Girona FC on January 26, 2019 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida

There’s only one problem. Some of the key decision makers are falsely claiming it won’t be good for the game in the US. So we, the fans, need to fight for this match by telling them:

It’s good for the fans. It’s good for the game.

Are you in? The more support we have, the harder we’ll be to ignore.

Together, we can #BringUStheGame.
