Luis Enrique’s side ended a two-game losing run
Barcelona’s Spain stars enjoyed a night off on Sunday, as Luis Enrique’s much-changed side secured a narrow 1-0 win over Bosnia-Herzegovina in Las Palmas.
Jordi Alba, Sergio Roberto and Sergio Busquets were all unused substitutes for the hosts, who secured the victory thanks to a debut goal from Celta Vigo’s Brais Mendez.
It was a far from convincing performance from Spain. The only goal of the game did not arrive until the 78th minute, Mendez firing home after Ibrahim Sehic had parried Isco’s shot.
The hosts did have other chances to score. Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata put a glorious opportunity wide, while Suso, Marco Asensio and Isco all wasted good opportunities.
Enrique made nine changes to his team, as he used the friendly to give some less experienced members of the squad a run out.
The team dominated the majority of the possession but found clear-cut goalscoring chances difficult to come by.
The win at least means that Spain end 2018 on a winning note.
England’s win over Croatia earlier in the day meant La Roja finished second in their Nations League group and missed out on qualification for next summer’s finals.
