Rumors: Latest on De Ligt, De Jong, Denis & Piatek

The rumor mill has been working hard this week

De Ligt not De Jong is Barcelona’s top target

Today’s rumors start with Sport, who reckon that Matthijs De Ligt is Barcelona’s top transfer target over midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

The club have decided a defender is needed more than another midfielder, and they’re willing to offer Ajax up to €80 million for the teenager.

Barca have been impressed when they’ve watched De Ligt this season, Ernesto Valverde has given the transfer his blessing and the “wheels have been put in motion for a move to happen.”

Actually De Jong is the priority

It’s a slightly different story over at Mundo Deportivo. They are reporting that actually Frenkie de Jong is Barcelona’s priority this summer.

The Dutch midfielder’s versatility is liked, and he’s also seen as the perfect successor to Sergio Busquets.

However, Barcelona are aware it will not be easy to sign him. Both Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City are also big fans.

Denis realising he has no future at Barcelona

Back over to Sport and they reckon that Denis Suarez is slowly starting to realise he has no future at Barcelona.

The midfielder has been determined to succeed at the Camp Nou, but Denis has now asked his people to talk to Barcelona about his future.

Denis will depart if the club decide it’s best he move away, but he will not leave in January and will wait until the summer.

Barcelona keen on Giorgi Chakvetadze

Meanwhile, Marca bring news of Barcelona interest in Georgian starlet Giorgi Chakvetadze.

Barcelona had scouts to watch him in action against Andorra and saw the midfielder score the opening goal in a 1-1 draw.

Chakvetadze plays his club football for Belgian side Gent and has also attracted interest from clubs including Bayern Munich and Tottenham Hotspur.

Krzysztof Piatek wants a big club

And finally today we end with news that Genoa striker Krzysztof Piatek, who has previously been linked with a move to Barcelona, has decided he wants a move to a big club.

According to Sport, he told an Italian newspaper: “To be at Genoa at this stage of my career? The dream of those who come to Genoa is that they use it as a stepping stone towards a big club. If I continue this way, I could sign for a big club. My objective is to play in the Champions League.”
