Barcelona continue their defense of the European title
FC Barcelona’s U-19s continue to lead their UEFA Youth League group with a win over Inter Milan, 2-0. Barça’s Juvenil A side have 10 points, ahead of Tottenham Hotspur with 6, as they continue their quest to defend the title won last season. Peke and substitute Nico González got the goals for the Catalans.
Inter dominated the early going and even hit the woodwork twice, but then, after a corner was cleared by the Italians, Peke’s left-footed strike found the back of the net. It was against the run of play, but Barcelona went into the break with a 1-0 advantage.
In the second half, Denis Silva’s Barça were still under pressure and required its central defensive pairing, Jaime and Comas, to make a lot of plays. This continued into the 65th minute, Salcedo and then Colombini came close to drawing the Nerazzurri level, but Barcelona captain Guillem Jaime made two successful goal-line clearances.
Silva made changes attempting to reestablish control of the game, putting on Nico and Nils Mortimer in place of Álvaro Sanz and Peke. The changes seemed to have good effect, though Inter still had chances to get the equalizer. In the end, though, Nico sealed the win in added time with a good individual goal, ending the match at 2-0 for the away side.
