The league president thanked the star player
La Liga president Javier Tebas has affirmed his desire to name an award after FC Barcelona star Lionel Messi, adding “no one has brought more to La Liga than him.”
“It would depend on Leo Messi but I’d love to have a La Liga award in his name... If he finishes his career in Spain, or most of it, I don’t believe anyone has contributed more to the competition.”
Tebas, a Real Madrid fan, nonetheless believes that Cristiano Ronaldo's departure to Juventus has only strengthened the importance of Messi to La Liga. “Yes, the fact Cristiano Ronaldo has gone to Serie A means he’s even more important,” he said.
Tebas also once again argued in favor of a Barcelona-Girona match taking place in Miami. “Our objective, of course, is that the match is played outside of Spain. Our objective is that it’ll be played on the 26th January. I believe we have the right to do that and we’ll fight for it until the end.”
The league president also spoke about rumors of Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar returning to La Liga. “I would like to see Neymar in Spain again, I don’t care which team,” he stated. The Brazilian has been linked with a return to FC Barcelona as well as a switch to Real Madrid.
