It seems like the club management can do no right
Barcelona has been on a very difficult journey of self-discovery ever since the departure of Ferran Soriano, Txiki Begiristain, and Pep Guardiola amongst other names. The trio played an important role in bringing about an institutional change at the club and are all currently a part of Manchester City’s ever growing ambition and project.
Josep Bartomeu has been a polarising figure and his appointment on the heels of the departure and eventual conviction of former president Sandro Rosell was always a difficult situation to be in. However, the Treble under the stewardship of Luis Enrique put a band-aid on the situation and things became hunky-dory for quite some time.
After several poor decisions in the market, a depleted, unbalanced squad, and the failure of Ernesto Valverde to win over his critics, things are starting to look particularly gloomy.
It seems like for the last six years, Barcelona has failed to stabilise, despite a host of changes aimed at doing exactly that. Barcelona has appointed four coaches in those six years and it is even more surprising to imagine that Luis Enrique coached the team for three of those six years.
Why is Barcelona failing to get so many things wrong? From the backroom staff that’s being hired without prior verification of their credential, to the poor decisions some of these executives are making from a financial and sporting perspective.
The club has suffered massive losses on several players and continues to make superficial decisions that lack vision and foresight. The fact that Ernesto Valverde was thought to have the supposed “Barcelona DNA” after playing one season for the club, is enough to suggest that he was a poor choice to begin with; his horrendous tactics have confirmed the hypothesis.
It might take some time but there is a need for change in multiple areas of the club, from a business and sporting direction and it is no surprise that the fans are constantly having to criticise the club and it’s decisions--the man in charge is still around.
