The captain will miss the next three weeks
Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has given his view after the club confimed that captain Lionel Messi will miss the next three weeks with a fractured arm.
Messi suffered the injury in Saturday’s 4-2 win over Sevilla which saw Barcelona move back to the top of the Liga table.
Barcelona face Inter Milan next in the Champions League before taking on Real Madrid in El Clasico and Pique says the team should be able to cope without him.
“It’s evident that when he’s there he gives us security because he’s the best in the world. But I am sure that Messi’s injury should not affect our morale. Whether he’s there or not we have more than enough of a team to move forward with the games ahead,” he said.
“I did well. They have talked a lot about me recently but I’m happy with my display. The important thing is that we won, now comes the Champions league and the Clasico, a game in which anything can happen. We have to go step by step and each win is important.”

Manager Ernesto Valverde must now figure out how to cope without Messi. Ousmane Dembele looks to be the obvious choice to come in and replace the Argentine, he took the skipper’s place after he was forced off against Sevilla.
