The players have been talking on international duty
Jasper Cillessen was interviewed by Sport this week and had thoughts all over the board about the Netherlands’ international break and being back in international football. However, the most interesting topic the Barcelona keeper discussed was the potential transfer of Dutch team-mates Matthijs de Ligt and Frenkie de Jong.
He discussed their talent level, whether or not they even wanted to come to Barcelona, and if they were ready for the big stage at the Camp Nou.
“With De Jong, I didn’t play together at Ajax, but I did play with De Ligt for a few weeks, because he came up to the first team in the summer of 2016. I was able to work with him that preseason, before coming to Barça. He’s a player with a lot of quality and is only 19.
“He’s 19 years old, he’s physical, strong, mentally strong, especially if you see the game against Germany. In the first half he didn’t go so well, but he recovered in the second half, he was excellent in the second half. at 19 years old. He was also excellent against Bayern Munich in the Champions League for Ajax.
“I spoke with him about it [Barcelona], he has the level, but he’s still 19 years old.… I don’t know because Overmars is in charge at Ajax, so I don’t know what he wants [to let him leave]. I also read he’s not going anywhere [in January].”

Cillessen was also asked if he spoke to De Ligt about interest from Barca and added: “He was at my table during every dinner, so we spoke a lot -- but not just about Barcelona, about a lot of things.”
The Dutch keeper was then pressed ever further about what De Ligt thought of Barcelona and said only “That it’s a great club. Everyone says it.”
The two players seem to be big targets for Barcelona, and plenty of other clubs around Europe, and Ajax look to have a fight on their hands to keep hold of them after this season.
