Valverde explains why he took Paco Alcacer off against Sevilla

The striker was on a hat-trick when he was replaced

Ernesto Valverde has explained why he opted to take Paco Alcacer off during Barcelona’s 2-1 win over Sevilla on Saturday at Camp Nou.

Alcacer had scored both of Barca’s goals and was on a hat-trick when Valverde replaced him with Gerard Deulofeu after 66 minutes.

Speaking after the match, Valverde explained just why he had decided to take Alcacer off.

"Paco had a very good game, but with all the defensive work he'd put in, he was tired," he said.

"Luis was still fighting and I knew he'd get more chances. The goals will come, he's a goal scorer, but I also value what else he brings to the team."

In contrast, Luis Suarez played the whole 90 minutes yet again, despite another ineffective performance from the Uruguayan.

In fact Suarez is now on his worst ever goalless run for Barca (according to Sport) having gone 451 minutes since his last goal, in the 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid on October 14.
