Copa del Rey: Barcelona vs Murcia: Team News, Match Preview

Barça look to book their place in the next round with reserves and kids

Following an exciting La Liga draw against Valencia last Sunday, Barcelona return to action this midweek with the second leg of their Copa del Rey Round of 32 matchup with Real Murcia.

Barça basically confirmed their spot in the next round with a 3-0 win away from home last month, so this match is basically a friendly. We all know Murcia will not come close to overcoming a 3-0 deficit and they’re going to the Camp Nou to enjoy the experience and soak up all the history.

For Ernesto Valverde, this is a very good chance to give a rest to his main players and give minutes to reserves and youngsters from Barça B who are looking to prove themselves. Even though this is a meaningless game, the Blaugrana cannot afford to lose or even draw with Murcia. They have to win in convincing fashion, and the players who will get an opportunity need to prove their worth.

After all, this is a third division team and the Barça reserves already beat them 3-0. Surely Barça will win big again, right?

TEAM NEWS

Marc-André ter Stegen, Samuel Umtiti, Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets, Ivan Rakitic, Andrés Iniesta, Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez have been given a day off and will not be in uniform for this one, which makes complete sense. Sergi Roberto is back from injury, though, and he’ll probably be in action for at least a few minutes.

In terms of the starting lineup, we should see a very similar team to the one that played in the first leg, which includes Carles Aleñá and José Arnáiz, some of the most exciting young players at the club who did a very good job in that game last month and could once again shine in this one.

If Barça are up to it and want to please the crowd, they can easily score multiple goals and give the Camp Nou a reason to celebrate. We already know they’re through, so it’s all about the attitude and the willingness to attack, score and win while playing good football. That’s all we want.
