Leganes 0-3 Barcelona: Player Ratings

The scores from the weekend’s win.

Marc-André ter Stegen

With every week there is a growing question as to whether ter Stegen is the best keeper in the world. For outsiders who don’t watch a lot of Barça they may think the keeper does not have many shots to save as he plays for a world class team but anyone who has watched them this season knows that ter Stegen has saved them on more than one occasion. He was again superb in this game, making crucial saves which gave Barcelona a platform to build on.

Nelson Semedo

Had an okay game until he left the field just before the hour mark. Made the second most interceptions.

Gerard Piqué

Got turned too easy on occasion and picked up a yellow card meaning he misses the Valencia game next week.

Samuel Umtiti

Yet another good performance from the Frenchman. While Leganes did on occasion get through and test ter Stegen it would have been a lot more if not for Umtiti.

Jordi Alba

A very strong defensive performance in which he made an astonishing eight tackles, the most of any player on the pitch. Attacking wise, he was also good making two key passes.

Ivan Rakitić

Always seems to play better when he was Alcácer to his right providing width.

Sergio Busquets

Kept the game ticking along from midfield. Four tackles, four interceptions and the most passes completed of any player on the pitch.

Andrés Iniesta

A short hour long cameo for Iniesta. Performed reasonably well if nothing spectacular.

Luis Suárez

Maybe the first goal was a signal of Suárez’s luck changing. After the keeper made a good save, the Uruguayan was in the right place at the right time to fire the ball into the net. There was also an element of luck to his second goal as his shot deflected off the defender on its way into the net. Still, it was a good finish from a difficult bouncing ball.

Lionel Messi

Not a great performance in Messi’s standards but he still contributed a reasonable amount. Creating chances from the middle of the pitch while firing off a couple of shots himself. Did well for the third goal as his perseverance meant the ball fell kindly to Paulinho.

Paco Alcácer

Another good performance from Paco as he seems to have really solidified his place in the team. The most encouraging aspect of his play is his link up with the other forwards. He regularly picks them out and can play quickly on the counter.

Paulinho

Was on hand to score his customary late goal after the ball somehow fell to him in the box.

Aleix Vidal

Missed a golden opportunity in the 75th minute. Blazing wide from just a few yards out.

Denis Suarez

Only played nine minutes.

The Team

Looked vulnerable at times and perhaps the scoreline was a little generous.

Sam says: 7

Ernesto Valverde

Made good changes at the right time. It’s always tough to play away after an international break and the earlier introduction of fresh legs helped combat that.

Man of the Match

Sam says: ter Stegen
