The Uruguayan was the reason they said no
It’s international week and there’s not much going on, but one story that did catch the eye was Mundo Deportivo’s news that Barcelona were offered Pierre Emerick Aubameyang last summer.
Apparently in the wake of Neymar’s departure, Borussia Dortmund made the offer directly to Josep Maria Bartomeu who handed it over to Robert Fernandez.
Barcelona then subsequently decided to turn down the offer because of the fact they had Luis Suarez.
Of course Suarez has gone on to have a pretty dismal season so far, scoring just three goals and coming under criticism from some quarters.
Aubameyang, meanwhile, has 10 goals and one assist in 11 Bundesliga outings for Dortmund - although he’s not scored in his last five matches.
Of course it’s also worth mentioning that Barcelona signed Ousmane Dembele from Dortmund in the summer and that was hardly a deal that went through smoothly.
The Frenchman effectively went on strike to force his move to the Camp Nou and Dortmund have subsequently said they wanted to keep him for one more year.
Dembele missed training and was suspended from the club shortly after Neymar’s departure but had to wait until the end of August before his move was officially presented.
