Barcelona 2-1 Sevilla: Player Ratings

The scores from Saturday’s win.

Marc-André ter Stegen

Did what was of asked of him and wasn’t at fault for the Sevilla goal. The attacker was unmarked and placed a powerful header into the corner.

Your Rating: 7

Nélson Semedo

A good performance from Semedo if not a spectacular one.

Sam’s Rating: 6.5

Your Rating: 7

Samuel Umtiti

Was lucky not to be punished in the 14th minute after being too easily tackled in his own half. Fortunately for him the resulting shot was wide but the Frenchman did recover from that.

Sam’s Rating: 7

Your Rating: 7

Gerard Piqué

Didn’t put up much of an aerial battle for Sevilla’s goal but in Piqué’s defence, the attacker had a running start on him. Almost scored a great goal from distance but the crossbar denied him.

Sam’s Rating: 7

Your Rating: 7

Jordi Alba

Did well in an attacking and defending sense.

Paco Alcácer

Maybe Alcácer’s best performance in a Barça shirt to date. In stark contrast to Suárez, Alcácer showed very strong finishing and scored his first two league goals of the season. Both of his shots on target found the net and he can be a little disappointed to be substituted.

Sam’s Rating: 9

Your Rating: 9

Ivan Rakitić

A very strong performance from Rakitić in which he really put an emphasis on his attacking game. His best chance came in the 7th minute when he controlled the ball down well on the edge of the box before firing a driven volley towards goal. It was just wide but was a signal of what was to come. Produced a great cross for the second goal.

Sam’s Rating: 7

Your Rating: 8

Sergio Busquets

Should have scored in the opening stages. Presented with the ball on a plate from Messi, Busquets could only side foot the ball towards the goal and it was blocked away.

Sam’s Rating: 8

Your Rating: 8

Andrés Iniesta

Maintained status quo in the midfield before departing on the hour mark.

Sam’s Rating: 7

Your Rating: 8

Lionel Messi

Very lively in the opening minutes, testing the gloves of the keeper in the fourth minute. Also found it relatively easy to get in behind and was regularly picked out.

Sam’s Rating: 8

Your Rating: 8

Luis Suárez

Perhaps the only positive you can say about Suárez’s recent performances is he is making the right runs. However, when he comes to the climax of the run his shot is always tame or off target. Desperately out of form and it is time for Valverde to consider dropping him.

Javier Mascherano

Only came on in the 89th minute.

Paulinho

Played half an hour but didn't contribute a lot.

Gerard Deulofeu

Didn’t do much in his 25 minutes.

The Team

Never really hit top gear but got the win. A few nervy moments when defending the one goal lead.

Sam’s Rating: 7

Your Rating: 7.5

Ernesto Valverde

Continues to make the 4-4-2 work but now there are serious questions about Suárez’s place in the team.
