He currently is on loan at AC Milan, a club that wants to keep him.
Gerard Deulofeu is reestablishing himself at AC Milan and he was boosted by a great showing for the Spanish national team in a 2-0 win over France.
FC Barcelona maintain a buyback option, and all signs point to the Catalans bringing him back home.
Deulofeu came through the Barcelona youth system and was loaned to Everton in 2013. When Luis Enrique arrived, Deulofeu alongside Rafinha were brought back at the same time, and there was the expectation they would both be squad players that season.
Insatead, Deulofeu was loaned out to Sevilla at the last minute, where he struggled. Meanwhile Rafinha remains a part of the first team.
After a middling season at Sevilla, Deulofeu returned to Everton, this time on a permanent transfer. But he struggled to make his mark with Roberto Martinez not in charge anymore. Thus, his loan to Milan in the middle of this season.
Now, things have been looking up lately, and his linkup with Barcelona players in the national team is a major boost. He won a penalty and scored as he was absolutely vital to La Roja’s triumph.
Still just 22 and loaded with talent, Deulofeu is an attractive option for many clubs. Barcelona are looking more and more assured to use their 12 million euro buy option to regain his rights.
The question is: will Deulofeu stay at Barcelona after they use that purchase option? Milan are already trying to negotiate for him. Reports suggest the Catalans are not yet completely sure if there is a spot on the first team reserved for him.
But Barcelona are in the market for a wide player and Deulofeu could be an answer...
