The former Barcelona manager said he himself won’t run for FC Barcelona president.
It’s no secret that Pep Guardiola is still loved in Barcelona. The former captain, B team manager, and first team manager ushered in Barcelona’s brightest era, so it’s no surprise that even this many years later, the fans and socis still have a soft spot for the boy from Santpedor.
And given recent comments Pep made saying he may not be a manager for too much longer, Fabio Capello speculated on Sky Sports Italia: “if he made these statements, it is also because in my view, he has the idea of becoming president of Barcelona."
Capello managed Guardiola during their shared tenure at AS Roma.
But Pep played down such suggestions. "I will never be president of Barcelona," he said firmly, adding: "For that, there is Gerard Piqué."
Barcelona’s defensive ace has openly talked about his desire of becoming president one day. Pep, who managed him as FC Barcelona coach, has stated in the past he would vote for his former player if he ran.
Pep even walked back his hint about retiring, saying: "perhaps it was inappropriate to say I was starting to say goodbye to my career."
