The pivot of the team became the joint tenth highest appearance holder in the club’s history on Thursday.
The match against Athletic Bilbao saw Sergio Busquets complete his 406th game for the club and even though there has been increased spotlight on his importance, it still seems like he is underrated.
At the start of this season when Barça struggled, it coincided with a time when Busquets was also struggling. He failed to find his full flow and the team greatly suffered for it. Busquets’ return to form saw the return of Barça’s form as well.
For years, he has been the man behind the superstars. Anchoring the midfield pairing of Xavi and Andrés Iniesta, Busquets was the man in the background who made the team tick.
Managers across the world have long been in praise of the midfielder ranging his from his Barça coaches, to the national team and even opposition managers. The footballing world sees the importance of a player like Busquets to a superstar team like Barcelona.
He is also one of the most decorated players in the club’s history. Busquets is the proud owner of six Liga medals, four Copa medals, three Champions Leagues, five Supercopa de Españas, three Super Cups and three Club World Cups. He has also won both the major international tournaments available to him.
At only 28, Barça’s future for the next few years looks certain to have Busquets anchoring it.
Sergio Busquets makes Barcelona history by joining all-time top ten appearance makers.
