FC Barcelona News: 14 October 2016; Javier Mascherano Set for New Contract, Paco Alcacer Talks Drought

Javier Mascherano will sign his contract extension on Monday | FC Barcelona
FC Barcelona defender Javier Mascherano, long a key element in the team's unprecedented run of success, will have his contract extended for two more seasons beyond the one currently underway. The signing is set to take place on Monday, 17 October at 1.00pm CET at the Club’s offices. As the Club previously announced, the extension will tie Mascherano to FC Barcelona until 30 June 2019.

FC Barcelona will know who their opponent for the Copa del Rey round of 32 tie will be on Friday from 12pm CET. Luis Enrique's men are the defending champions having beaten Sevilla in the final last year, with goals from Neymar Jr and Jordi Alba sealing the win in extra time. The fixtures will take place on the 30 November away and on the 21 December at the Camp Nou.

Dr.Jordi Monés this Thursday in the USA set out the FCB Universitas, Sport Innovation Hub project, in a presentation to the media and guests at the recently opened FC Barcelona New York office. On Wednesday the director and commissioner for FCB Universitas also presented the project to a select group at a dinner at the Harvard Club in New York. Amongst the guests were representatives from Universities in Georgetown, NYU, Fordham, Harvard, Columbia and Cornell, as well as the United Nations, UNICEF and Mount Sinai.
