Barcelona reach agreement with Brazilian club to sign Colombian defender next summer - Report

Want a monster in defense? You got a monster!

Barcelona will look to strengthen its defense next season with the likely departure of Jérémy Mathieu, and they're set to sign a true monster from Brazil.

The Catalan giants have reached an agreement with Brazilian club Palmeiras to sign Colombia international center-back Yerry Mina next summer, sources told Barca Blaugranes. The 22-year-old is the undisputed best defender in the Brazilian league, and hopes to help current leaders Palmeiras to win the Brasileirão.

Barça's interest in Mina is nothing new. The Catalans have been scouting and watching the player since his days at Independiente Santa Fé in Colombia, and tried to sign Yerry to Barça B in January. Mina did not want to join Barça B, which is why he signed for Palmeiras instead.

Ever since that move happened, Barça director Robert Fernández has been trying to work out a deal with Palmeiras in which the Blaugrana would have the priority to sign Mina for a low transfer fee, and he finally reached that agreement this week. Any other European club who wants to permanently sign Mina have to pay Palmeiras a €25 million buyout clause, but Barça only have to pay €8 million next summer, which just shows how much of a genius Robert is.

"But is this guy good?", you might ask. The answer, from someone who watches Palmeiras every week is Y-E-S. YES. This dude is a monster, physically imposing on the ground and especially in the air, and he can score headers at will. But Mina is not just a beast, he's also technical and suprisingly fast for his height (1.94m), which makes him a very good option at a very low price.

Barça B have a similar player to Mina in Marlon Santos, and Barça fans were very impressed with Marlon in preseason. But Mina is a taller, faster, better version of Marlon. And just a reminder: Marlon is on loan for a season, and Barça would have to play his club in Brazil (Fluminense) a €6 million fee to sign him permanently. Mina would cost basically the same, and is a better player.

To sell you on Mina a little bit more, I present to you two of his goals, and the other thing that makes him great: HIS DANCE MOVES!
