The Aleix Vidal Era will be over in two months
Barcelona will not be the club of Aleix Vidal for too long anymore. In fact, his time at the Catalan giants will be over in less than two months.
The Blaugrana full-back has decided to leave the club, and a mutual agreement has been reached between his agent and Barça sporting director Robert Fernández for the player to be sold in the January transfer window, sources told Barca Blaugranes. Mundo Deportivo and Diario Sport also reported the news on Tuesday.
Vidal's signing was announced the day after Barça's Champions League Final win against Juventus two summers ago, and many were excited with the prospect of another Sevilla full-back joining the Catalans and having success like Adriano Correia and especially Dani Alves, who Vidal was supposed to replace.
Aleix had to wait six months to play because of Barça's transfer ban, and after being allowed to make his debut in January, he had two very good months to kick off his career and his signing looked very good. After a few bad games, he suddenly fell from a cliff right to the bottom of Luis Enrique's pecking order in a matter of weeks, and even Douglas Pereira was being picked ahead of him, which raised plenty of questions about what happened with the Spaniard.
Reports from Catalonia suggested that Vidal struggled to adapt to the pace and intensity of Barça's training sessions, which led to him performing poorly in games. He was barely used at the end of last season. He played a few matches in preseason, but once again became a forgotten man and has not even been named in a matchday squad for the last month.
The Serie A seems to be Vidal's most likely destination, with clubs like AC Milan and Napoli having expressed interest in the 27-year-old. He could also be included in a deal for Valencia full-back João Cancelo, but regardless of his destination, he won't be a Barça player after the January window is closed.
