Rumors continue about a squad shake-up
Speculation over the futures of several Barcelona players continues to swirl ahead of the start of the new season in Spain.
New boss Ronald Koeman is expected to shake up the squad after the Champions League disaster and move on some of the club’s ageing stars.
Luis Suarez and Jordi Alba are two names being put forward by Sport as potential departures because the duo “are on wages that the club can no longer afford to pay.”
The Uruguayan has already said he wants to stay and is willing to be a substitute, but Barca want to sell so that they can bring in Lautaro Martinez as his replacement.
Ajax are interested in bringing Suarez back to Amsterdam, but the Uruguayan isn’t interested at the moment and would rather see out his contract.
Meanwhile, Alba is another player Barcelona are happy to wave goodbye to. They feel “now is the time he moved on for a new challenge” and think he will attract admirers.
Marca have also provided an update on Barcelona exits and report that Suarez and Ivan Rakitic are the club’s two priorities. Indeed they think Suarez will be the first to go.
Rakitic could follow and looks most likely to return to Sevilla. It’s clear the midfielder would be welcomed back to his former club if they can agree a fee with Barcelona.
