The Brazilian was for sale but is needed with Ter Stegen out
Barcelona are facing a bit of a headache when it comes to back-up goalkeeper Neto.
It had been expected the Brazilian would be sold this summer after barely playing for the Catalan giants in 2019-20. He managed a total of four appearances for the club in his first season at the Camp Nou.
Indeed Neto was considered to be a player who could help Barcelona raise some much-needed funds this summer and is said to be valued at €22 million.
Sport are now reporting that Premier League side Sheffield United are keen on the Brazilian and Barca are “open to letting Neto leave.”
Yet the 31-year-old will be needed at the start of the season with Marc-Andre ter Stegen out through injury after undergoing knee surgery.
Barcelona have confirmed the German is expected to miss over two months and is not likely to return to first-team action until November.
Ter Stegen will therefore miss the start of the new La Liga season, which kicks off on September 12, and potentially the first two group games in the Champions League.
As tempting as it might be for Barcelona to sell Neto now, his departure would leave the club with 21-year-old Inaki Pena as their only fit goalkeeper. Any sale will surely have to wait until January.
