The two met to discuss the future on Tuesday

Ronald Koeman reportedly met with Sergio Busquets on Tuesday to discuss his plans for the future at the Camp Nou.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the two chatted for around 30 minutes at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper and Koeman confirmed the midfielder is in his plans.

However, the new Barca boss also warned that Busquets will face competition for a starting spot from Frenkie de Jong and new signing Miralem Pjanic.

Sport report that Busquets has been told that while he’s still wanted “he no longer has the privilege he is used to and is far from guaranteed to start all games.”

Koeman has already said he wants to play De Jong in his preferred position next season, and it looks like the Netherlands international will be a key player for the new coach.

There have been suggestions already that De Jong could play as part of a double pivot system along with Pjanic or Busquets at the Camp Nou.

Pjanic looks like he may miss the start of the season after testing positive for Covid-19. The midfielder’s arrival at Barcelona has been delayed by 15 days, meaning he will miss the first week of pre-season with his new club.
