The Barcelona wunderkindis being monitored by Spain
FC Barcelona prodigy Ansu Fati has caught the eye of Spain boss, and former Barcelona coach, Luis Enrique. Speaking at his first press conference after retaking the reigns of his job as Spain’s manager following an unexpected resignation due to personal tragedy earlier this year, Luis Enrique said he had his eye on Fati.
“Of course i have followed Ansu Fati. How couldn’t you? He plays for Barça. We know his potential,” he said.
“But what is evident is that there is a stage of development that very few players can skip. It has to be a slow maturation process.”
Fati turned 17 this October but has already started matches for Barcelona’s senior team and even scored a few goals. Aged only 16, Fati became the youngest player in the history of La Liga to score and assist in the same match, as well.
He was born in Guinea-Bissau but has represented Spain at U21 level. He was initially scouted by Spain to join the U17 team for the U17 World Cup but he ended up skipping that level and playing for the U21 team. There are some who say his debut for Spain’s full senior team is right around the corner, but it seems Luis Enrique is worried about potential burnout and wants to take it slowly.
