Ernesto Valverde has called 18 players for the home opener, including a 16-year-old kid
The next Barcelona match is upon us! The Blaugrana make their first appearance at home in La Liga this season and search for their first win of the campaign when they welcome Real Betis to the Camp Nou, and Ernesto Valverde has called up the following 18 players to be in uniform on Sunday:
Goalkeepers: 1. Marc-André ter Stegen, 26. Iñaki Peña
Defenders: 2. Nélson Semedo, 3. Gerard Piqué, 15. Clément Lenglet, 18. Jordi Alba, 23. Samuel Umtiti, 24. Junior Firpo
Midfielders: 4. Ivan Rakitic, 5. Sergio Busquets, 8. Arthur, 12. Rafinha, 20. Sergi Roberto, 21. Frenkie De Jong, 22. Arturo Vidal
Forwards: 17. Antoine Griezmann, 27. Carles Pérez, 31. Ansu Fati
The injury list is long for this one: Lionel Messi (calf), Luis Suárez (calf), Ousmane Dembélé (hamstring) and Neto (wrist) are all out due to physical problems, while Moussa Wagué, Jean-Clair Todibo and Carles Aleñá will watch from the stands per the manager’s decision. The one really good news is the inclusion of 16-year-old forward Ansu Fati, a star at the Juvenil A team who gets a chance in this one with all the injuries. If he makes his debut, he would become the second-youngest player to wear a Barça shirt in an official match.
Predicted starting XI (4-3-3):
Ter Stegen; Semedo, Piqué, Lenglet, Alba; Rakitic, Busquets, De Jong; Rafinha, Griezmann, Pérez
The match kicks off at 9pm CET (Barcelona), 8pm BST/WAT (UK & Nigeria), 3pm ET, 12pm PT (USA), 12.30am IST (India, Monday), and you can join us to follow and comment all the action.
