The Brazilian has been left out of the squad again
Barcelona head to Tottenham on Wednesday and, just like Athletic Bilbao at the weekend, there’s no room for summer signing Malcom in the squad.
The Brazilian has managed just 25 minutes of action for Barcelona this season, although he did miss three weeks due to an ankle injury.
Still, Valverde’s decision to leave him out of the squad is interesting. Even more so when he’s named three goalkeepers in his squad, Rafinha, Denis Suarez and young left-back Juan Miranda.
There have been some rumours that Valverde didn’t want Malcom, and RAC1 have reported that Valverde “does not know where to play and when to play him.”
His signing certainly came as a surprise as Barcelona swooped in late just as he was about to board a plane and join Roma.
He didn’t come cheap either. Barcelona ended up splashing out €41 million on the 21-year-old who was expected to challenge Ousmane Dembele for a place in the team.
It’s still early days but that’s not happened yet. Malcom did feature in pre-season and looked pretty good with goals against Tottenham and Roma, but he’s not had much of a chance since. Maybe he will return to the squad for Sunday’s clash against Valencia?
After that it’s the international break, and Malcom may get the chance to impress after being called up by Brazil for the first time. Tite’s men take on Saudi Arabia and Argentina and Malcom will be hoping for some game time.
