The Frenchman spoke at length about Barcelona’s training and facilities
Clément Lenglet says he has “never seen anything in [his] life” quite like FC Barcelona’s training and facilities. The defender, playing his first season at the Camp Nou after arriving from Sevilla, spoke with France Football at length about his new club:
“It always starts with a long toro [‘piggy in the middle’], after a five-minute warm-up. Once the toro is completed, we never drop the ball, and we continue with keep-ball games in extremely small spaces. The idea is to incorporate what you have learned, to orient the body on the correct side, to think as much as possible about what we are going to do with the ball. Everything is done to go always faster and increase fluidity in the game. 7In this room (a room of a dozen square meters), the staff could make us a four against four!”
Lenglet says he understood the club’s motto, més que un club (more than a club) when he arrived.
“Barça is a club with a huge history, a special identity. The pressure around is very strong. The structure of the club and the number of employees is very impressive. There is not only football, there is also basketball, handball ... The facilities, it’s top level. We have a gym that uses the latest technology. Everything we do on machines is stored in computers, calculated, analyzed. I had never seen that in my life!”
Lenglet also praised Lionel Messi’s leadership and explained he is eager to get into France’s FIFA World Cup team for the 2022 edition.
