Fifa won’t take action over Neymar’s dispute with Barcelona

Fifa have confirmed they will not be taking action with regards Neymar’s complaint that he is owed a £23 million bonus from Barcelona.

Neymar is believed to have demanded the loyalty bonus prior to moving to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.

Barcelona, however, refused the request leading the Brazilian to turn to Fifa, but they have said they will not be looking to take action. A Fifa spokeman gave the following statement:

“After having been made aware that, apparently, the same matter had been submitted in parallel before different jurisdictions, by the same party, the FIFA administration informed the parties to the dispute that, based on the long-standing and well-established jurisprudence of FIFA’s deciding bodies, it did not seem to be in a position to continue with the investigation of the affair. The proceedings were therefore closed for formal reasons.”

It’s a bit of a confusing statement but Neymar has reportedly also filed a complaint with Spanish courts with regards the same matter and they will now make a decision.

Barcelona’s Josep Vives has previously explained why the club have no intention of handing any more cash to Neymar.

“There were three conditions: the player must not negotiate his departure from the club during the month before the bonus became payable, he must demonstrate his desire to fulfil his contract, and that we would,” he said.

Fifa obviously aren’t interested in getting involved, which is good news for Barca, but with the Spanish courts yet to decide, we haven’t heard the end of this just yet.
