Barcelona President: Camp Nou Naming Rights For Sale

Bartomeu says Barcelona are looking for a partner

In an interview with Bloomberg, FC Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu confirmed that his team is looking to sell the naming rights to the Camp Nou stadium.

“We have a big project called Espai Barça, which is a renewal of the stadium, totally, but not only the stadium, we are renewing part of the city of Barcelona... We are going to look for a new sponsor,” he said.

“There are two of three companies we are talking to,” Bartomeu continued. “Our partner will probably bring us half of the investment.”

The president said that sponsors are not worried about the Catalan independence question so long as Barcelona continues to play in La Liga and the Champions League.

He also said he spoke with the players about the political situation.

“Yes, of course we talk a lot to the players. Also, with their agents. Well, players... their main concern is ‘we have to play, we have to be successful.’ We are trying every year. We brought Philippe Coutinho, we brought Yerry Mina, we bring new players to make the team more competitive. That is the main concern of the players.”

Bartomeu also addressed rumors that Lionel Messi had a clause in his contract that he could leave if Barcelona left La Liga. Bartomeu said this was normal:

“All the players have a clause in their contract. We have to provide them playing La Liga and playing Champions League. If the conditions change, we have to change the contracts. But this is something that is normal in the contract.”
