Barcelona are looking to tie down their young goalkeeper for the foreseeable future
This weekend was far from Marc-Andre ter Stegen's best in a Barcelona shirt, but Barcelona's confidence in their young goalkeeper has not wavered. According to numerous reports, including this one from Sport, the Catalan club are seriously considering a contract extension for the German. Ter Stegen's current contract runs out in 2019, so time is not of the essence, but Barcelona would like to get this done as soon as possible.
The new contract would raise ter Stegen's salary, extend the length of the contract to 2021, and increase the buy-out clause from the current €80 million. With Barcelona stating they want this new deal happen and ter Stegen talking about his desire to remain the No. 1 goalkeeper in the Catalan capital these negotiations should conclude quickly.
While occasionally error-prone, FC Barcelona and the coaching staff believe the young German is a future star and at only 24 ter Stegen's best goalkeeping years are still in front of him. With his playmaking abilities and shot-stopping talent the sky is the limit for ter Stegen and it appears he will be able to reach for that sky as a member of the Blaugrana.
