A right-back for Barça, another for Valencia!
While Barcelona officials have told forgotten full-back Aleix Vidal that he's still part of the plans, they are looking at the market for a replacement.
That's according to a report from Ràdio València, who claims that Barça sporting director Robert Fernández is discussing a trade that will send Aleix Vidal to Valencia in exchange for rising star João Cancelo, one of the Bats' best young prospects.
Barça's interest in Cancelo is nothing new, but with a real necessity of a backup to Sergi Roberto, the Blaugrana could be really in for the 22-year-old now, and a transfer could be done in the January transfer window. The former Benfica full-back is also a target for a few Premier League sides, and Valencia could be looking to cash in on the player as soon as possible.
Cancelo is valued at €25 million, but Robert wants to bring the asking price down by throwing Vidal in the deal along with a €15 million fee. The Barça director was at the Mestalla Stadium to watch the player against Atlético Madrid, and he started an early discussion of the Cancelo deal with Valencia officials that day, according to the report.
João Cancelo has everything you want in a full-back: he's fast, he's skilled, he defends well and makes good offensive runs. He has been playing mainly as right winger this season, but his original position is on defense. Barça have already signed two players from Valencia this season (André Gomes and Paco Alcácer), and Cancelo would be the final piece to complete the squad and send Aleix Vidal packing.
