Juve want a midfielder, and Rakitic is the next target
Serie A champions Juventus are seriously targeting a Champions League title in the near future, and they want a Barcelona star to complete their squad and go all out for an European Cup trophy.
According to reports in Italy, the Bianconeri are targeting Barça midfielder Ivan Rakitic under the orders of Juve boss Massimiliano Allegri, and they could be making a move for the Croatian international in the January transfer window. Allegri is a big fan of Rakitic and wanted to sign him when he was still at Sevilla, and he's still interested in working with the player at Juve.
Rakitic has been one of the most consistent Barça players ever since joining the team two years ago. Signed for only €15 million, Ivan has become an integral part of the Blaugrana system, and his abilites with and without the ball make him one of the most complete midfielders in football. Juventus are in desperate search of a great central midfielder, and after failing to sign PSG's Blaise Matuidi and Zenit's Alex Witsel in the summer, they could be going after Rakitic this time around.
The rumor makes sense, since Allegri always loved Rakitic and Juve want a midfielder with his qualities. But the January move doesn't look likely since Rakitic would be Cup tied after already playing in the Champions League for Barça, and Juve are after a midfielder that would play in the Champions League knockouts. But they could be after Ivan for real next summer, although Rakitic loves Barça and will probably sign a contract extension this season.
Come on Juve, you already signed Dani Alves. That's enough.
