OH MY GOD WHAT THE HELL JUST HAPPENED
Barcelona lost to Celta Vigo away from home for the second season in a row, this time with a 4-3 result at the Balaídos, with goals from Pione Sisto, Iago Aspas, Jérémy Mathieu (own goal) and Pablo Hernández, with Gerard Piqué (2) and Neymar scoring for the Catalans. Barça played horrible football in the first half and the Celestes took advantage of poor mistakes from the visitors to record a stunning victory.
FIRST HALF
The Blaugrana had a very good first 20 minutes, keeping the ball well, passing with confidence and creating some good chances. Neymar was a lot better than he was in Germany and Arda Turan maintained his form, helping Ney and Suárez find spaces in the Celta defense.
But the hosts were pressuring high up the pitch and waiting for any mistakes from the Blaugrana defense to take advantage. And it happened. Multiple times. First, Sergio Busquets failed to control an easy pass from Ter Stegen and gave the ball away to Aspas, who found Sisto for the opener. Ten minutes later, Busquets once again couldn't retain the ball and ignited a one-man fast break by Aspas, who shot past Ter Stegen for the second. In the very next play, Barça lost the ball again and a cross from the right side met the leg of Mathieu, who tried to clear it but scored an own goal.
Barça were completely stunned by three goals in eleven minutes and couldn't recover in any way, just waiting for halftime.
SECOND HALF
Barça came back from the locker room with Andrés Iniesta, and the captain instantly changed the game, with the Catalans clearing out the mistakes at the back, keeping possession and creating chances. After a short corner, Iniesta played a perfect cross to Piqué, who climbed over everyone and headed home Barça's first.
Iniesta then created another glorious chance, and André Gomes was fouled inside the box. Neymar stepped up to the spot and scored the second to bring the Blaugrana back to the game. But the incredible work done in the second half was destroyed by a terrible mistake from Ter Stegen, who tried a pass over the top and hit the head of Pablo Hernández, who scored Celta's fourth, finished the game and cancelled the comeback.
But Barça never stopped fighting, and after a very good play by Denis Suarez, Piqué headed home his second goal and the Blaugrana still had a small hope of getting a late equalizer. Neymar and Piqué nearly tied the game with headers that went inches wide, and that was as close as Barça came to a fourth goal.
In the end, a very painful loss because of the individual mistakes, but the second half performance was encouraging. If there's one bright side, it was that.
