Official: Barcelona full-back Jordi Alba out ten days with injury

Barcelona's fantastic rout of Athletic Bilbao on Sunday did not come without consequences. Bad ones.

Full-back Jordi Alba, who left the game in the second half with a leg contusion, went to a hospital for further tests, which revealed a mild hamstring strain in his right leg. The injury will cause Alba to miss the next ten days of action, meaning he's out for the remainder of January.

Alba will miss the two Copa del Rey matches against Bilbao, as well as the difficult La Liga game away from home at Málaga. The problem gets worse when all other options for left-back, Jérémy Mathieu and Adriano Correia, are also currently injured and have no date set for return.

In case all three left-backs are out for the next ten days, coach Luis Enrique will have to be creative to come up with an answer. His initial alternative on Sunday was to use handyman Sergi Roberto in that position, and in what has become a trend this season, Roberto was very good in the new position. Enrique can also use Aleix Vidal, who can play in either flank, in that spot as well, with Dani Alves or even Roberto doing the right-back job.

If only there was another good left-back on the club... yeah, he went to Benfica. I miss you already, Grimaldo.
