The Catalan giants have problems in attack

Former Barcelona defender Marc Muniesa has been talking about the Catalan giants and thinks they look like “a team without a soul” this season.

The club have endured a rollercoaster campaign both on and off the pitch. The team top La Liga after 27 games but have been far from convincing and have already been beaten five times.

Lionel Messi has made his frustration with the board clear on a number of occasions, while Ernesto Valverde was replaced by Quique Setien in January.

Muniesa offered his thoughts on the current state of the Catalan giants.

“Everything that’s happened has been a bit bizarre, with Valverde’s sacking, people putting on pressure from outside about the play... it looks like a team without a soul,” he said.

”It’s very difficult to do what Pep [Guardiola] did or Luis Enrique, who played a little more on the counter-attack. Now, with injuries to Dembele and Luis Suarez, there aren’t as many solutions up front.

”Griezmann is not at the high level expected of him and Messi is a bit on his own. The best news is Ansu Fati, who’s a footballer who has no fear.”

Muniesa, who joined Qatari said Al-Arabi last summer, also spoke about Xavi and how he was convinced for three days in January he would be leaving to take over at Barcelona.
