A Denis Cheryshev own goal put Uruguay 2-0 up and, the hosts’ afternoon got even worse as Igor Smolnikov was sent off 10 minutes before half-time.
Edinson Cavani completed the win late on as he tapped home from close range as Uruguay put in their best performance of the tournament so far.
The win means Uruguay finish as winners of Group A and go through to meet the runners-up of Group B which could be Spain, Portugal or even Iran.
