Barcelona’s pursuit of Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong has reportedly had a bit of a boost with Sport reporting he’s told the Spanish champions he wants to move to the Camp Nou.
The club have wanted him for a while but now have to decide whether to try and bring him in this summer or wait until next year.
Ajax understandably don’t want to sell as he is an important asset and they know his price will only rise, but De Jong’s willingness to move may help Barcelona in negotiations.
The 21-year-old is happy to move either this summer or next and has told Ajax that Barcelona is the club he wants to join if he is sold.
Convincing Ajax to negotiate still looks to be the tricky part and there’s still a long way to go before a deal can be done.
Interestingly the report also reckons that De Jong is “one of the three options they [Barcelona] have at the moment,” when it comes to strenthening midfield.
The club have also been linked with Thiago and Miralem Pjanic, while they are also believed to be keen to bring in Arthur this summer too.
