Barcelona vs Celta Vigo, 2017 La Liga: Final Score 2-2, Barça miss a lot of chances and drop points again

SCORE THE GOALS!!!!!!!!

Barcelona dropped points for the second straight week in La Liga thanks to a 2-2 draw with Celta Vigo at the Camp Nou on Saturday. In what was a wonderful, open game between two teams looking to attack all the time, individual errors and some great goals were the reason for the result. This isn’t the best result for Barça, but the way the team played is extremely encouraging. They just need to stop missing chances.

FIRST HALF

The game started a little slow, with both teams feeling each other out and not really looking to attack. But Celta Vigo brought life into the game with a counter-attacking goal from Iago Aspas, and then Barça woke up. The Blaugrana equalized just two minutes later with a wonderful team goal finished by Lionel Messi, and they created at least four golden chances to get ahead.

Luis Suárez also had a perfectly legal goal disallowed for offside, which he wasn’t. Barça had a very strong finish to the first half, and they would have been ahead if not for Rubén Blanco saving everything and referees being bad.

At halftime, a good Barça performance had them looking like favorites to win the second half and the game.

SECOND HALF

Barça carried the momentum from the end of the first half into the second half, and their pressure over Celta increased even more. The Blaugrana kept creating chances and not allowing the visitors to counter attack, and Barça got a 2-1 lead when a beautiful combination between Messi and Jordi Alba ended with Luis Suárez finding the back of the net.

But the goal didn’t make things easier for Barça, and Celta got an equalizer with 20 minutes to go through Maxi Gómez. Barça also lost Samuel Umtiti to injury leading up to the goal, so things looked really bad for the Blaugrana as we approached the final minutes.

However, this game defied all logic, so Barça dealt with the final minutes incredibly well, attacking even more and missing some unbelievable chances to find a winner. Celta also had their moments on the counter, but neither team was able to score the winning goal.

A 2-2 draw isn’t a great result, and Barça really should have won this one. But the attacking intent from the team was something we haven’t seen in a long time, and maybe this performance is the catalyst for better offensive displays in the future.
