While Barcelona can't bring new players in, other teams try to take players out. It happened again.
According to a report from Italian outlet Tuttosport, Serie A winners and Champions League finalists Juventus have made an official €14 million offer to Barcelona for Argentine defender Javier Mascherano. The Bianconeri lost new signing Sami Khedira to injury in his first game with the side, and the Italian giants decided to eye the Blaugrana sheriff as a replacement. The offer was immediately rejected.
What attracted coach Massimiliano Allegri to Mascherano is his versatility; his ability to excel both as a defensive midfielder and center-back is vital to any defense, but it can prove to be perfect to Allegri's tendency of using a three-man back line in many games. With El Jefecito in the middle, you can easily transition from a three-man to a four-man defense, with Masche serving as the wildcard in the system.
The only problem: the 30-year-old is heavily committed to playing with the Blaugrana, and after some shaky moments, he went back to being a world-class defender under Luis Enrique, who considers the Argentine as one of his most important squad members.
Nice try, Juve, but Masche is OUR sheriff.
