Banned Barcelona center-back Gerard Piqué decided to take a break from training and went to play some poker at a casino in the city. There were journalists there, so he obviously had to answer questions about his 4-game sanction due to a red card, which has been appealed by the Blaugrana club.
While a decision hasn't been made, the star defender is optimistic about his chances of having the suspension reduced and being able to make an early comeback. He also commented on Barça's La Liga opener against Athletic Bilbao, in which his teammates fought hard to leave San Mamés with a win. Questioned about squad depth with injuries and player sales, he remained confident that the group is still strong enough to maintain a high level regardless of which players are on the pitch. He also commented on the departure of longtime teammate, Pedro.
Here's more of his quotes:
"I'm confident the sanction will be cut. It's difficult not to be able to help the team and to have to watch from the stand, but I'll continue working for when I can return to action.
"We couldn't have started La Liga in a better way. Everyone who played at San Mames did really well. Sergi Roberto showed his talent. Bartra, Vermaelen, as well, they did really well.
"To say there is no depth is to look for something negative about this team. The world doesn't end if you lose one game. There is a team and with players out we went to a difficult ground and won. The objective is to be up the top in La Liga, pass through the Champions League group stages and arrive at the Club World Cup in good shape.
"Pedro is keen to continue winning; he wants to feel important and participate, you have to keep that in mind. He's a great person and I wish him the best. Will I play against him? You always end up playing against the big teams."
