AS Roma will travel to Catalunya tomorrow for this year's special 50th anniversary edition of the Joan Gamper Trophy, as FC Barcelona will look to conclude their shaky pre-season with a commanding performance in front of their adoring fans. The Gamper Trophy started as a tribute to one of the most influential men in the club's history, and now serves as both that and a traditional curtain raiser for the season ahead. The first team squad is unveiled, and usually, we get to see some incredible football.
Although this year, the invitation extended to AS Roma may make the Gamper a slightly more competitive affair; the Serie A runners-up are likely to pose a tough test and could become the first visiting team since Sampdoria in 2012 to escape the Camp Nou with the trophy.
