The quarter-final draw for the UEFA Champions League was held this morning in Nyon, and paired FC Barcelona with a familiar foe: Paris Saint-Germain
To reach the semi-finals of the 2014-15 UEFA Champions League, FC Barcelona will have to eliminate Paris Saint-Germain – it’s as simple as that. After all the pre-draw talk of a potential nightmare scenario against a Bayern Munich or a Real Madrid, the reality was that Barça were almost the first out of the pot and will square off against a familiar foe – the same team they defeated in the group stage.
Of course, in some respects this is a good draw for the Blaugrana. We know that we can defeat PSG and have a great record against them in this very competition. Likewise, PSG have to play the first-leg without their star player, Zlatan Ibrahimovic after his contentious red card against Chelsea FC in the previous round. Influential Italian midfielder, Marco Verratti is also ruled out of the opener courtesy of his third yellow card of his competition at Stamford Bridge.
In others, this tie will be a difficult one: we may have beaten PSG to top the group, but we did lose at the Parc des Princes and a similar result would put us under pressure for the return leg at the Camp Nou. With Dani Alves also suspended for the first-leg, Barça have selection issues of their own to contend with, but will be confident nonetheless of securing safe passage to the final four.
The first-leg will be contested on Tuesday 14th April at the Parc des Princes, while the return leg is scheduled for the following week on Wednesday 22nd April at the Camp Nou.
