The Real Federación Española de Fútbol has decided where the Copa del Rey final will be contested.
Following weeks of impasse and disagreement between Barcelona, Athletic Bilbao and the Spanish Federation, it was announced on Wednesday that the Spanish Cup ultimate game will be played on May 30th at Camp Nou, Catalunya, home of the Blaugrana.
It seems strange that Bilbao would agree with the title-decider being played at the rival's ground, but it's a smart financial decision, since the profits from the final will be equally shared between the clubs and the Federation. Athletic will also get a higher share of tickets than it usually gets when it goes to Camp Nou, since the Spanish Cup Final will be technically held at a "neutral environment", which requires a good distribution of tickets to both groups of fans.
Since Barça and Bilbao reached the final, the teams quickly requested the game to be played at Santiago Bernabéu, home of football and political rival, Real Madrid. The Blancos obviously refused to accept the proposal, so the search for a site began. Atlético Madrid's Vicente Calderón has an AC/DC concert scheduled for the same date, which naturally impedes the stadium to be used for a football match.
Valencia and Sevilla's grounds have been recently selected to hold La Final, so the Spanish Federation wanted an alternative stadium.
Now we got one. It's Barça's sacred ground.
