He’s expected to leave in the summer
The asking price for Ivan Rakitic is now around €20 million according to reports. The timeline to sell Rakitic is nearing an end given his contract runs out in a year. The best opportunity to sell him will likely be in this calendar year and not waiting till the winter transfer window.
The report also specifies that Rakitic wishes to stay in Spain. The main team that has been circling the potential move is his former club Sevilla.
Really the main holdup with a move to Sevilla seems to be the overall asking price of €20 million. The discussions between Rakitic and the club don’t seem all that complicated. However, as the summer window wanes on, its likely a compromise will come up to finally end the years long Rakitic transfer saga.
