The win may not have been as spectacular as the one on the cup semi-final, but in many ways it was a far better overall performance from the blaugrana. Barça dominated the game from start to finish, Marc Andre Ter Stegen was very rarely called upon, and though only one goal split the teams, it would very hard to argue that the best team won.

Another win for FC Barcelona in the Santiago Bernabéu as the ‘Clásico’ in Madrid is becoming synonymous with blaugrana wins. Lionel Messi was on the receiving end of a flailing elbow from Sergio Ramos at the end of the first half of Saturday’s Clasico, and the chain of events ended in Gerard Pique making a gesture to Real Madrid fans. Pique was left incensed by the lack of a red card for Ramos and after the game explained his half time message, when he used his hand to make a speaking gesture.

Ramos spoke after the game and explained himself. “Messi took a bad knock but it was totally involuntary,” said Ramos. “There was nothing bad between us and it just happened.”
