The French forward knows he has to be working at 100% in training to get back into fitness
FC Barcelona have all three of their forwards out injured, but by far the one that causes the most consternation is Ousmane Dembélé. Luis Suárez did not travel to play with Uruguay, allowing him time off to recuperate, and it’s understood he will be fit to play Barcelona’s next match. Lionel Messi finished one match with Argentina with pain, and will not play as the albiceleste take on Morocco. But that is also thought to be something that will be resolved by the time Barça take the field again.
It is Dembélé who had the most serious injury of the three. He injured himself in a league match and then was rushed back early as Barcelona took on Olympique Lyonnais in the UEFA Champions League. After completing that game, he seemed to aggravate the injury, and he’s been out of action since.
Barcelona are desperate to get the Frenchman back to fitness in time to play against Manchester United in the Champions League quarterfinals. And the player himself is equally eager to play it seems, as he is doing more work than anyone to get back into fitness according to Diario AS.
Dembélé is training every day except weekends, even as other players are taking some days off during the international break. He’s working with a physio to ensure his injury, originally estimated to put him out for three to four weeks, will keep him away for something closer to three rather than four weeks. The biggest problem is the type of injury, a tear in his right biceps, the same muscle that kept him out four months last season. The hope is that he is fit to play some minutes against Atlético Madrid at Camp Nou and then, if all goes well, play at Old Trafford.
