The extent is not yet known
Romelu Lukaku is set to undergo an MRI scan on his foot after missing training with the Belgian national team. The Manchester United forward missed the FA Cup quarterfinal loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers with a problem on that same foot, but he was declared fit and allowed to travel with Belgium. United are awaiting the results of the scan with an important run of fixtures in the horizon, including a clash with Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League.
That problem comes a day after learning that Anthony Martial was forced to withdraw from the French national squad after re-injuring his right knee, which has been a source of concern for a while for him. There is a hope among the United faithful that he will use this time off to heal.
There are also questions over Jesse Lingard’s health, with the player featuring in the last United match but there were some suggestions he was not fully fit yet. He was not called up by England.
Alexis Sánchez is on a similar boat, having suffered an injury recently and not being called up by his national team, Chile. He is less important to the Red Devils’ set up these days, however.
The international break might be a good time for several United players to finish their recoveries. It is an open question whether they will be fit to play Barça, although in most cases there is optimism.
For Barcelona, their injury scare is with Luis Suárez. He had to be subbed off at the end of the blaugrana’s 4-1 win over Real Betis. He won’t travel to play with Uruguay but is expected to be fit about a week before the Champions League match.
