Student Hero From Florida Shooting Receives Invite from FC Barcelona

Anthony Borges saved 20 people and was former member of the Barça Academy

Anthony Borges was shot five times in the back and legs while preventing a gunman from entering his classroom at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, the day a former pupil launched a vicious attack which left 17 dead. Borges’s efforts saved up to 20 people, and he’s being hailed a hero.

Despite needing several surgeries and still recovering, the student wants to go to abroad as soon as possible.

Why? Because FC Barcelona have sent him an invitation to meet his favorite players, along with a shirt signed by the team.

Aside from being a student, Borges is a soccer player and a former member of Barcelona’s soccer school in Florida. He’s always wanted to meet the likes of Lionel Messi and Gerard Piqué, and now he will get his chance. The club also offered their medical services to help him recover.

“I thank Barça for all its support and for going to all this trouble to help cheer up my son,” his father, Royer, said. “I understand that the club’s doctors also helped with his recovery.” His father also said his dream is to play for Barcelona.
