The player is thought to be set to retire at the end of the season
FC Barcelona legend Xavi is set to retire after finishing the season with his current club Al-Sadd, and he is planning to become Barcelona’s coach in the future, according to Club de la Mitjanit.
The program says Xavi will retire after the end of this season’s Asian Champions League. The final will take place on November 10th. After that, he will become Al-Sadd’s first team coach.
Most interestingly, the report says that Xavi does not want to coach the Barcelona B team, but the first team only. In any case, the player would be realistic, thinking he will not get the job until 2022 at the earliest. His idea would be to train Al-Sadd until he could get the Barcelona first team job, and it would have to be at the start of a season, not as a mid-season replacement.
Is this path a good idea? Pep Guardiola and Luis Enrique both captained Barcelona, then coached the B team, before moving onto the first team. Would Xavi do well to emulate them?
