It’s Barcelona Derby day! The capital of Catalonia stops tonight to watch the two biggest teams in the city go head to head for the first leg of their Copa del Rey quarterfinals matchup.
To be honest, calling Espanyol one of the “two biggest teams” in Catalonia is just doing them a favor. Espanyol are a small club that just happen to be in La Liga and like to kick the hell out of Barcelona players when they meet. Small club mentality, or whatever.
On Wednesday night they have the opportunity to play at home and try to get a draw or not to lose by a lot of goals, hoping to have some chance in the second leg at Camp Nou next week.
But if Barça take this one seriously, this shouldn’t be a tough night. Espanyol are not having a great season and are not the defensive force they used to be, so if Lionel Messi has a great night we could see Barça booking a place in the semi-finals in the first leg.
This will be fun, this might be tough but probably won’t be, and Barça will be looking to destroy Espanyol one more time. It’s always good to watch, and you can’t miss it.
